Student Union members continue training, enhancing skills

The Student Union is undergoing a skills and experience makeover.
For the past several weeks, the SU crew were sent to development camps, where they benefited from professional training in various fields.
The main purpose of these camps is for the SU members to experience tasks and challenges in different fields, and to be able to apply the knowledge and experience in improving their work on campus.
Training in different fields such as fundraising and leadership were provided by Well Spring, an Egyptian company that specialises in experiential learning and developmental training for almost all age groups.
The first development camp took place early March at the Desert Development Center and lasted two days. It mainly focused on establishing leadership skills and fundraising training. The crew was divided into teams and competed against each other in a games setting. The winning team was then given the opportunity to market and advertise a product from the Well Spring Company to the rest of the teams.
Mina Ramsis, associate chair of the SU services committee, said: “The training was a great, fulfilling experience. It allowed all of us to benefit on a professional level but by engaging in fun, entertaining games and competitions with different students. It is a wonderful Idea!”
The second camp also took place in March in Ein El Sokhna for three days. It also focused on establishing new skills and gaining professional experience. However, this camp offered a unique activity that differed from the first camp.
“We were taught how to sell ourselves to companies, what to say in job interviews, and how to react to certain questions asked by employers,” Ramsis said.
The camp attendees varied from new SU members all the way to upper board members. “Many students attended the camp and most of them were freshmen; and that was a great experience for us because we got to meet new people and see the new members of the SU learning and having fun,” Ramsis added.
The SU has previously held such development camps in past semesters as a preparation for the academic year. These two camps were the first to be held this semester, and the SU is planning to arrange more camps as a result of their success.
