Count Your Dreams.. And Your Blessings

As we tuck ourselves under the covers and close our eyes shut, we have no clue what lies on the other side.

Where will your sleeping thoughts take you? What will you dream of tonight?

Have you ever stopped to consider your dreams?

As an avid dreamer, I find my almost daily and very intricate dreams surprising many. People are almost always shocked when they find out how often I dream, as well as the content of the dreams.

At first, I saw my dreams as a curse.

They are usually embodiments of any constant thoughts lurking around in my mind. Anxious thoughts. Worried thoughts. Things I wouldn’t want to remember, especially when I am supposed to be mentally a million miles away from this world and all of its concerns.

Dreams literally unravel your subconscious and so your deepest, darkest, and most daunting thoughts rise to the surface. This only increases the intensity and frequency of my worries, as not only are they a nuisance throughout the day, they now become an irritant to peaceful sleep.

However, the day I met someone that never dreams made me so unbelievably thankful that my mind discloses thoughts that haunt me in my sleep.

I cannot fathom living without dreaming. Especially since I worry if I don’t dream within three days.

How could they never dream? And how lucky am I that I get to explore my subconscious almost daily, and wake up remembering the events that took place in deep sleep.

This is especially when I realized that most of my dreams are reenactments of previous days. You’d casually drop in “congeniality,” and days later and world’s away I’d find myself in Sandra Bullock’s Miss Congeniality sash.

How my brain made that connection is beyond me.

The only thing I’m sure of though, is that dreams are most definitely a blessing – through them you get to examine your psyche and understand your worries and fears.

Subsequently, this can make you more aware of any shortcomings or areas of your life that need work.

The minute you step into bed and drift away, you are in fact stepping into your subconscious, a journey not everyone is lucky to embark on.
