The AUC Tahrir Campus celebrated the renovation of its bookstore, as well as the grand re-opening of its historic main gate off of Sheikh Rihan Street on Monday.
This now makes the bookstore accessible to the public straight from Tahrir Square.
“The bookstore itself was never closed, but we are re-opening its main gate on Sheikh Rihan Street, which was closed since the revolution in 2011,” said Michael Raafat, AUC Press Bookstores Assistant for the last eight years.
There is a new collection of titles featured in the bookstore, and customers are able to enjoy a 20 percent discount on all books until the end of November.
“On the first Saturday of each month we provide customers with 20 percent discount on all books here at the Tahrir campus bookstore,” said Raafat.
The Tahrir bookstore has major significance for the culture scene downtown and is one of the main attractions of the Tahrir campus.
It also serves the general community whereas the bookstores at the New Cairo campus a geared to the AUC family.
“The AUC New Cairo campus has three bookstores, one for textbooks, another one for books in general, and one is a gift shop, while the AUC Tahrir campus contains only a general bookstore and a gift shop as it serves people from outside the AUC community,” said Jossef Metry, AUC Bookstores manager.
