In a bid to facilitate a more streamlined tuition payment process, AUC launched an online payment system through banner self service for the first time this semester.

“The e-payment gateway is provided by Touchnet, [an information system company], and is a PCI compliant gateway, meaning that it is in compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard requirements,” said Chief Technology Officer Nagwa Nicola.

Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Brian MacDougall told The Caravan that AUC has been working with the software company for the past two years.

“The use of online payment is an option that could make it more convenient for students to pay without visiting the bank directly,” MacDougall said.

According to Nicola, once students cross into the online payment page in banner, they move into a secure payment gateway that does not give AUC access to personal credit card information.

“AUC does not have a direct involvement in the transaction process and so does not assume any responsibility for any technical problems. However, the software provider has worked to prove that the transaction is secure and all information is encrypted,” MacDougall said.

Nicola said that she has received positive feedback from students who have used the system.

“Many are satisfied with the system and a few needed help, which was provided. It is similar to any online payment you make for online shopping,” added Nicola.

Students believe that this move will speed the process overall and allow students to avoid the headache and hassle of missing deadlines and then filling endless paperwork and petitions.

“I haven’t had issues paying tuition before, but I know many people who have and this process might make it easier for them,” said Mo’men Madkour, finance graduating senior.

“I think it helps people a lot because it’s making payment in general flexible rather than just standing in lines in the banks,” said Yasmine El Tyeb, business marketing sophomore.
