Many students turn out for SU Welcome Packs

Students braved cold wind and rain for the chance to queue up and receive the Student Union (SU) traditional welcome packs on Thursday.
But this year, the SU had a few surprises in store.
In addition to giving students the chance to customize (mix and match) the contents of their welcome packs, the SU introduced more practical items such as portable power banks, selfie sticks, mugs, and car chargers.
“We try to provide useful items that fit the needs of all students, that’s why we made them choose their own pack,” said Aly El-Boghdady, General Manager of the SU Welcome Packs initiative.
The SU provided 2,000 welcome packs this semester and used an online student ID registration database to ensure no one got more than one pack.
This year’s welcome pack slogans included “Create your own pack”, and “No stereotypes”. The latter is labeled on most of the notebooks and mugs.
“No stereotypes, we are all one community here in The American University in Cairo (AUC),” said EL-Boghdady.
Junior Psychology student Sarah Sharabi was enthusiastic about her welcome pack this year.
“This [time] the pack is better than before, because of the variety and that we get to choose what to take.”
