That Girl’s Not Walking Behind Him
Anyone following celebrity news with the slightest bit of interest has most probably heard about George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s recent matrimony in Venice.
There’s something about Clooney that somehow attracts girls and women alike – maybe it’s the fact that he seems to get better-looking as he ages or maybe it’s his suave style. Maybe it’s just the piles of cash he’s accumulated from years of Hollywood gigs.
Whatever the source of everybody’s Clooney obsession is, it’s resulted in all the news pieces covering the couple’s romance being framed in a manner that puts Clooney at the forefront of it all and makes Amaluddin seem like “that girl walking behind him”.
Therefore, it was pretty refreshing to see this article, which turned that type of framing on its head:
A quick Google search on Alamuddin shows an impressive list of accomplishments, from attending prestigious universities such as Oxford and New York University, where she received scholarships and awards, to working in the International Court of Justice and the Office of the Prosecutor at the UN Special Tribunal for Lebanon and at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia…just to name a few.
Altogether, her education and career basically beg for every woman with professional aspirations to envy her to no end.
So I’m glad that this article has finally presented us with something that gives greater value to being a woman with significant professional accomplishments under her belt than being an attractive 53-year-old with a lot of money and nice suits.
And I couldn’t help being amused by their referencing Clooney as “an actor,” making him “the guy walking behind Amal Alamuddin”.
