On Monday, October 9, students of AUC gathered at noon to march in support of Palestine and condemn the Israeli occupation.
The march came after Hamas launched the “Aqsa Flood” operation at 6 a.m. on October 7 in response to the late Israeli provocations in Al Aqsa mosque including raids and attacking Palestinias. “Aqsa Flood” led to the death of over 1300 Israelis and Netanyahu declaring war and threatening a larger counterattack.
Since Saturday, Gaza has been bombarded with 4,000 tons of explosives, resulting in over 1400 deaths and 6000 casualties.
Israeli authorities prevented the entry of supplies from Egypt into Gaza, and halted deliveries of food, fuel, electricity, and water until 150 hostages taken captive by Hamas are freed, which aggravated the humanitarian crisis in the strip.
AUC students called for organizing a march in light of the events happening on the Facebook group “Rate AUC Professors”.
Over a hundred AUC students chanted slogans throughout the march, rejecting the Israeli occupation and the violence and injustice against the Palestinians. Their voices were hoarse as they repeated slogans like: “Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea” and “With our souls, with our blood, we sacrifice for you, Al-Aqsa.”
The march expressed students’ rejection of constant violations of the Israeli Army in Palestine, the killing of civilians, and considering any Palestinian resistance an act of terrorism.
The march also condemned the international community’s double standard, which charges the killing of settlers while turning a blind eye to the ongoing oppression and massacres Israel has committed against Palestinians for the past 75 years.
“We are here to stand with our brothers in Palestine. We can do nothing but pray for them, and our role is to raise awareness of the alarming situation,” Ahmed Hamed, a business entrepreneurship student, told The Caravan.
Jana, a political science student, expressed the march’s important role in raising awareness.
“I think this is very important. Since we have many international students, they should know what this is about and how much it means for all of us,” she said.
