Letter from the Editor
“Congratulations! You’re the new Editor-in-Chief!” When professor Pandeli Glavanis spoke those words to me after applying for the position in the Caravan, I thought he was joking. No, seriously — I laughed and thought he was joking.
I was so honored and overwhelmed to be selected to lead, what in my (biased) opinion is the most widely read newspaper on campus.
I was honored that the board trusted me with a publication with roots extend back to 1900s.
I instantly knew the size of the responsibility I would have for the remainder of the academic year.
As much as that scares me, it excites me, and it thrills me up until today!
I share my thrill with a group of 14 editors and 15 reporters.
Together, we are a team of students who aim at providing you with a newspaper that truly carries your voice.
This year, we are trying to go the extra mile and ensure that we are, in fact, carrying the voice of the American University in Cairo community.
As a start, you will notice that we have introduced a new page; Business. It will be added to the ones we’ve always had; News, Spotlight, Arts and Culture, Sports and Opinion. We are also working on starting a Science and Technology page that would enable us to provide even more members of the community with stories that would truly engage them with the Caravan.
Additionally, we are making our website, Facebook group and Twitter page more active and up-to-date with day-to-day events.
Finally, we want you to be involved in our content. In addition to being open to any story ideas in any of our sections, we are also hoping that you can write for us.We want you to have easy, full-time access to whatever we provide you with in our print version. We want to see your comments and feedback, which would ultimately help us improve our material and understand what you all expect to find while flipping through our pages.
Whenever you feel as though you have something to write about and share with the remainder of the community, guest writers are always welcomed, and the doors to our newsroom are always open.
